Eric Magdanz

Coach Magdanz has spent the last 6 seasons as the Head Coach of the MacEwan University Griffins. During that time, he has helped the  Griffins become a competitor within U SPORTS. This summer he is also coaching the Alberta Basketball U17 provincial team and has worked with the Senior Women’s national team for the past 4 summers.

During his time with MacEwan University he has led them to the best record for any incoming team as well as a playoff birth in 2015-16 against cross town rivals University of Alberta. The Griffins have had a numbers players become successful graduates including Denzel James, who was the first Griffin to play professionally.


Coach Magdanz was an Assistant Coach for the University of Alberta for 2 seasons during Coach Baker’s university career. In their final season together (2011-12), the University of Alberta won the Canada West Conference Championship and made it all the way to the National Championship Game.
