Matt Skinn

Coach Skinn is from Welland, Ontario where he played at Notre Dame College School under Coach Mike Rao. Upon graduation, Skinn joined Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia where he was a 4-year starter, 3-year team captain, and Academic All-Canadian. He graduated from CBU with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. 

Matt's next move was to the University of Calgary, where he completed his Master of Science in Sports Psychology while assisting with the Dinos Men's Basketball Team. Returning to the east coach, Coach Skinn took the reigns of the St. FX X-Women Basketball Team, where he led them to only their 2nd National Championship appearance in program history (4th place finish). After 4 years at St. FX, Matt took the position of Head Coach back at his alma mater: Cape Breton. The team made playoffs in each of his 4 years at CBU, and were frequently ranked in the CIS top 10. Coach Skinn won an AUS Conference Championship and AUS Coach of the Year in 2013. Since rejoining the Dinos in 2016, the the team has consistently ranked in the U Sports top 10. In 2017-18, the University of Calgary won both the Canada West Championship and the U Sports National Championship! 

Matt has also won two National Championships as a coach of Provincial Teams (2007 - U17 Team Alberta & 2015 - U17 Team Nova Scotia) and has been involved in Centre for Performance and TAS coaching with Canada Basketball. 

BAker Elite Connection

Coach Skinn was an assistant coach with the U15 Team Alberta squad that won a silver medal at Nationals in 2006. Jordan Baker was the starting small forward on that team. Baker also was a member of the U17 edition of Team Alberta that won a gold medal under Coach Skinn at the 2007 National Championships.
